We recently donated some outdoor play equipment for the children of riverside school to enjoy. The gifts included a bouncy castle, Lego, a variety of garden games, six picnic benches, plus some planters for flowers so the school could join in with Goole in Bloom.

In February we donated super sensory surprise toy hampers to two special boys, Harry and Kyle. It was amazing to see smiles all round as the boys received their special gifts.

Phil previously worked with Kyle at Riverside School, Goole, and Harry's family who setup 'Harry's Fund' a charity raising awareness for Cri Du Chat have a close relationship with one of our trustees.

Cottingham Rangers presented the first annual Phil Smith Sporting Hero Award to a brave girl called Millie. Millie plays for the girls under 14s team. She was awarded the shield in 2016, after facing a difficult year with courage and strength whilst still showing commitment to the team.

To honour Phil’s enthusiasm for football, two Memorial Shields were created. These shields have been given to Haltemprice FC and Cottingham Rangers, the two teams Phil had played for. Each year these shields will be awarded to a deserving player at their annual award ceremonies.

Haltemprice FC hold their annual awards ceremony and race night at Fair Maid in Cottingham. Liam Power was awarded the shield in 2015, and Chiedu Oraka took home the shield in 2016.

In 2016, Phil's Warriors distributed 50 books to coffee groups and cafes around Cottingham.

World Book Night brings together a powerful collaboration of national partners – publishers, printers, distributors, libraries, booksellers, private donors, trusts and foundations – to inspire more people to read. Thousands of volunteers share their love of reading by giving out books to people in their communities who, for whatever reason, don’t read for pleasure or own books. National, regional and local events up and down the country celebrate the difference that reading makes to people’s lives.

World Book Night is celebrated on 23 April and run by The Reading Agency.

With some initial help from Kemps gift store we continued to fund raise and was able to buy a Christmas light to dedicate to Phil. We chose a bright, white star to be hung outside Kristoff's Café and Restaurant.
